Oh, no!  Not Sherry.  I moved in next door to her when I was 5.  That summer I turned 6.  We walked to school together on the very first day of first grade.  Neither one of us had been to kindergarten, so this was a BIG deal.  Our very first day of school EVER.  That was the beginning of a long term friendship.  We played so many games together growing up in Bryn Mawr.  Lots of our games were outside...tag, statues, Red Rover, Red Light/Green Light, hide and seek, tetherball, baseball, badminton, croquet, jump rope, hopscotch, marbles, and wild horses.  We also biked together and swam together.  We played indoor games together, too.  Her parents taught me to play pinochle.  We embroidered pillowcases together.  We had Brownies and Girl Scouts together.  We both went to the U.W. and both became teachers.  We held each others firstborn.  She moved to Hoquiam, and we lost touch.  She never came to a reunion, so I haven't seen her in 40 years. But, I remember those good times we had.  We lived next to each other for 16 years.  That's a long time.  Rest in peace dear friend

Nicely said Patty.  Never knew Sharon but I do know what this kind of friendship has meant.  Tough to lose anyone close to you. Hope we can rekindle in August.

I didn't know Sharon well, and thanks to Patty's comment I know her better now. We shared that first day of school experience not having been to Kindergarten and the UW experience too. I was disuaded by a Freshman UW Prof from my teaching career goal. I like to think I'd have been a good educator.
